Welcome to Masons Island
Masons Island Life
Masons Island is a historic, secluded island that measures six hundred acres and sits just off Stonington, Connecticut at the mouth of the Mystic River. It is home to some four hundred residences accessible only by a causeway from Mystic. Stunningly beautiful and secluded, the Island is a mere ten minutes from Interstate 95, approximately half-way between New York City and Boston.
The Island features access to Masons Island Yacht Club, which provides various benefits, including sailing, swimming, kayaking, tennis, activities and exclusive social events. Residents have access to moorings and dockage on the Island. Club membership not guaranteed.
Moorings & Dockage
Fishers Island Sound has some of the finest sailing on the East Coast of the United States, and Masons Island is perfectly situated for easy access to the Sound with its prime location at the mouth of the Mystic River. Sport fishing is also popular in the deeper waters off Montauk and Block Island Sound, close by to powerboats. We have moorings and dockage available.
Any property owner in the southern area, including Kingfisher Way, Cormorant Road and Egret Road, may be proposed for membership in the Masons Island Yacht Club although there is no guarantee of admission. The Yacht Club provides facilities and instruction for sailing and small boat racing, swimming, tennis and bocce. These is also an extensive social program and several regattas. The Yacht Club operates independently of the Masons Island Company.
Masons Island History
Named after the eighth Deputy Governor of the State of Connecticut in 1660, Major John Mason, the Island was originally a summer retreat accessible only by water from the nearby town of Noank.
The Island has welcomed homeowners since the Masons Island Company (MICO) was formed in 1912. Its mission was to develop Masons Island while maintaining the unique beauty and serenity of the island. Originally a summer retreat reached by boat from nearby Noank, Connecticut, the island, under the stewardship of the Allyn family, has evolved into a wonderful community of homes on and near the remarkably beautiful Fishers Island Sound.
